What Do You Get When You Combine...

... a Beagle

... a Chinese Shar-Pei

...and a German Shorthaired Pointer?

A Jozy!

That's right. The results are in. Jozy is over 75% Beagle and then a combination of a Chinese Shar-Pei and a German Shorthaired Pointer. This is a huge upset from the results of the Who's Your Daddy poll. No Border Collie and the surprise introduction of a Chinese Shar-Pei.

Vijay Iyer Trio - Mystic Brew

A little Monday morning jazz from one of the top jazz albums of 2009, Vijay Iyer's Historicity. This song is amazing.

Saints Geaux to the Super Bowl!

What an awesome game! We caught the second half at the house of a friend of ours. After the field goal split the uprights, the neighborhood teenagers took to the streets, cars drove by with people screaming out the windows, fireworks went off and the local sporting goods store announced it would be open until midnight. The Saints are Super Bowl bound!

Seth Meyers on Conan

In need of a good laugh? Seth Meyers breaks down the NBC drama in a way we can all understand. Classic.

World Cup 2010 Tickets Confirmed!

We got tickets. Not only that, but we got good seats! USA vs England in Rustenburg and USA vs. Slovenia in Johannesburg. 141 days and counting.

Diamond Rings - Give It Up

Really liking this song the last few days. Know nothing about the band - just really like his voice and the piano. Enough so that I researched tools to rip Vimeo videos to mp3 in order to just grab the audio. Turns out that is a suprisingly easy task.

22 Minutes

Today's plan involves lots of sports. Watching Everton (with Landon Donovan) vs. Manchester City and then two football games on TV. That latter set of TV is 6 hours of football...or actually, just 22 minutes according to the WSJ.
  • The average amount of time the ball is in play on the field during an NFL game is about 11 minutes.
  • Commercials take up about an hour.
  • As many as 75 minutes, or about 60% of the total air time, excluding commercials, is spent on shots of players huddling, standing at the line of scrimmage or just generally milling about between snaps.
(Thanks to pele1410 for sending the story my way)

Crawfish

Oysters on the half shell, 3 lbs of crawfish, Abita Turbodog, bread pudding with rum sauce and some local live music in the background. Man that was a good dinner at Randol's tonight.

Dan Black - Symphonies

Found this tune by an artist named Dan Black while cruising around iTunes the other night. Indie pop and pretty darn catchy. The video is pretty cool tool. Happy Wednesday.

Rogue Wave - Good Morning

There is a new Rogue Wave tune out at this point. Looks like the album (Permalight) drops in March. This tune doesn't grab me like Lake Michigan did but I'm going to give it a few more chances and it just might grow on me. Download it for free on Stereogum.

By the way, they will be in New Orleans on 3/15. Just might cruise across I-10 to catch that if it is not sold out yet.

Robbie Keane: Penalty Kick Training

Pele1410 sent me this the other day. I think I have a new way to practice PK's with my team. I like this idea a lot.

One of the funniest things my wife has sent me in a while. Definitely good for at least a chuckle or two. Click on the image above or this text in order to read the whole cartoon.

Fondue Connoisseurs?

We went out to dinner with two of our good friends this past weekend to The Melting Pot in Baton Rouge. It was their first experience with fondue. It's tough to read their expressions in this photo...skeptics, having fun, starting to suffer from undercooked seafood...only they know.

Empire

2009 was a slow year for monthly mixes. This was the December mix...just took me a while to put a cover on it. Some of the usual suspects from past mixes found on this one, like The Avett Brothers, Pela and Phish. This mix also includes two songs from a band I had the opportunity to see live in Austin, TX (Hayes Carll).

2010 brings with it a renewed commitment from me to "step up my game" so to speak. That said, the first mix of 2010 is almost complete as is the mix from the new tradition my wife and I started last year (creating a compilation of our favorite songs from all the mixes of the year). So expect another 2 where this one came from fairly soon.

1. The Walls Are Coming Down * Fanfarlo
2. Say Hey (I Love You) * Michael Franti & Spearhead
3. Your Desert's Not a Desert At All * Pela
4. Beaumont * Hayes Carll
5. Strangest Thing * Grant - Lee Phillips
6. Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare * Matt & Kim
7. Wake Up * The Arcade Fire
8. Unity (featuring Matisyahu) * Trevor Hall
9. Laundry Room * The Avett Brothers
10. Backwards Down The Number Line * Phish
11. Carolina Drama * The Raconteurs
12. Genesis 3:23 * The Mountain Goats
13. Houses * Dinosaur Jr.
14. Have a Little Faith * Michael Franti & Spearhead
15. Drunken Poet's Dream * Hayes Carll
16. River * Akron/Family
17. The Lime Tree * Trevor Hall
18. Raise It Up * The IMPACT Repertory Theatre & Jamia Simone Nash
19. Life is Beautiful * Vega4

Poll: Who's Your Daddy?

Jozy is having her DNA tested to find out what type of breeds make the unique mixture of energy that she is. The DNA kit was a Christmas present from my wife's mother and consisted of 2 cotton swabs and a postage paid envelope. All of those CSI episodes

finally paid off and we took Jozy's DNA sample around midnight on New Year's eve after a great dinner with my brother and his wife (who acted as eye witnesses and documented the event).

Take a crack at guessing the primary breed that Jozy is by voting in the poll below. Results should be back in, in about 2 weeks!
